Jackson Family History

Bill came to Morton in the fall of 1954 as a custom harvester. He didn't stay in Morton until the fall of 1956. Bill met Nora Sutton in 1957 and they were married in June of 1958 in Amarillo, Texas and have made their home in Morton since that time. Nora was the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Pierce and a niece of Joe Pierce. The Pierces were among some of the early settlers of the Morton area.

Nora was employed as a waitress in Morton and Levelland for some time. Bill was employed in August of 1958 until February of 1971 by Goodpasture Grain Co. Inc. at Lehman, Texas and was manager for eleven years. Since that time he has been in custom work. When not doing custom work he does farming for himself.

When they married, Nora had three small boys, LeRoy, Johnny, and Skeeter. The boys grew up in Morton and have families of their own now. Nora had three other children which also grew up in Morton. Two sons, Robert and Emmett; and a daughter, LaRaina Dawn, that were married before Nora and Bill married. Robert and Skeeter live in Morton; LaRaina Dawn and Johnny live in Memphis, Tennessee and LeRoy lives in Conroe, Texas.

Emmett (Jim) attended school in Morton and boxed in the Golden Gloves. He then entered the Marines for four years. During that time, he met his wife, Mona. They were married in Memphis and have made their home there.

Mona was a legal secretary and an administrative aid for the Shelby County Delegation of the Tennessee General Assembly. Emmett has been a pro boxer in the mid south. They have two children, Steve and Kimberly.

Robert lives in Morton and is farm related employed. He has four sons, Ricky, Mitchell, Milton, and Clarence.

LaRaina Dawn and her husband, Billy Joe, live in Levelland where he works as a tool pusher in the oil field and she is a homemaker. They have four children, Freddie, Mike, Terry (deceased), and a daughter, Rhonda.

LeRoy and Janice live in Conroe, Texas. He is employed as a pumper for Wheeler Oil Co. Janice works at a pharmacy. They have two children, Tammy and David.

Johnny and his wife, Laura, live in Levelland. He too, is employed in the oil field and Laura is a housewife. They have two children, Billy John and Laura Lee.

Skeeter and Carrol live in Morton. He was in the backhoe business for some time until the oil slump. They sold out and came back to Morton. He farms now. They have two children, Billy Paul and Audra Lee.
